Last year 3657 people died on German roads. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), according to preliminary results further reported, these were 495 fatalities (-12%) less than in 2009. Thus, the positive trend of recent years has even accelerated in 2010: the number of fatalities reached their lowest level in 60 years.
Even with the number of people injured in road traffic, there was a decline from 2009 to around 371 700 persons (-6.5%). The total number of police recorded accidents rose last year by 3.8 percent to 2.4 million. The increase is solely due to accidents with property damage - they rose to 2.1 million (+5.5%).
