Ampera: Geneva (at last) actually

Even the Europeans are preparing to get to know the electric car. The revolution will begin on a large scale with Ampera, especially suited to the majority of motorists who travel less based on the studies of 60 km a day to go to work or to travel for pleasure. The product of Opel will present at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2011, which will make its official debut.

Along with a rechargeable electric motor in 4 hours through a standard electrical outlet at home, there is in fact a small gasoline engine, capable of extending the autonomy of the total to over 500 km. The performance is by car "normal": the 150 hp electric motor can reach a top speed of 160 km / h and accelerate from zero to 100 in 9 seconds.

Who is behind the wheel can choose how to guide that suits your needs, also in energy saving: Normal mode is the most common setting of Ampera and will be the one used in most cases to have the maximum efficiency. When the battery charge falls below a certain level, the Ampera switches to extended-range, and the gasoline engine starts automatically to maintain the charge and allow you to continue to travel.

Then there is the Sport mode, in which there is a greater power output, but a more immediate response to commands from the driver. Mountain mode is suitable for mountain roads: the electric generator is inserted before the battery reaches the minimum level of charge. This mode should be selected after performing a full charge or 10 or 15 minutes before starting your journey in the mountains, to maintain the full performance of the vehicle even on slopes.

And finally, here is how the City, where the electricity generator is part of Ampera also charged battery allowing you to conserve energy stored in batteries. Once cleared the City mode, the generator stops working and Ampera can use battery power to travel in purely electric mode. Ampera car five doors and four seats, will go into production in 2011 and will be marketed across Europe to € 42,900.
