Bentley Continental Record: 330 km / h on ice

With a peak of almost 331 km / h, the Bentley Continental Convertible Supersports is the world's fastest car on ice. A copy of Continental Supersports almost standard with four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen behind the wheel, exceeded 200 mph on the icy surface of the Baltic Sea. For the record, 205.48 miles, corresponding to 330.695 km / h.

The car, running with the same E85 bioetaolo feeding the 6-liter V12 (630 hp and 800 Nm of torque distributed by the permanent four wheel drive) was equipped with the bare minimum to address the business: a roll cage, a specific set of tires (275/40R20 Pirelli SottoZero II) and unparacadute, placed at the rear bumper to ensure the safety of the stop in an emergency.

The only concession to aerodynamic, two spoiler (one front, one rear), specially designed by the Anglo-Finnish team, which developed the record to provide the necessary stability at high speeds and on the surface of choice for the lead, anything sure that more than 300 km / h. With the assistance of a group of engineers Bentley, Juha Kankkunen has faced a challenge in the challenge: in addition to the world record on ice, already realized in 2007 by the same Kankkunen driving a Bentley Continental GT to 321.6 km / h There were also prohibitive weather conditions that occurred in Oulu, the Finnish national selection on the Baltic Sea for the record: 30 degrees below zero outside temperature, crosswind to 16.5 km / h and sudden blizzards, which have put a strain on the success of the record.

The speed measurement, calculated on the average of two steps (round trip) on the launched km, has been certified by officials of the Finnish Traffic Police. The event will be held in the coming weeks, at the Geneva Motor Show 2011. For the occasion, the Bentley anticipates that there will be a small series, limited to 100 copies of this very special Bentley.
