BMW Active: A Concept in Geneva Electric

It's called the BMW Active all-electric concept that the Bavarian automaker will present a world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show. The basic choice to make this prototype and the BMW 1 Series Coupe, which can accommodate four passengers and a cargo of about 200 liters capacity. The objective of the engineers is to combine the comfort range of typical BMW with the propulsion with zero emissions.

According to figures released by the manufacturer, the Active concept is able to cover the shot 0-100 km / h in 9 seconds, developing a power of 168 hp and a torque of 250 Nm Top speed is electronically limited however to 90 mph (about 140 km / h). Despite being an electric vehicle - which often forces to place the batteries where possible - engineers have managed to maintain a low center of gravity and a uniform weight distribution, 50% front and 50% at the rear.

Three load cells arranged in the engine compartment under the center console instead of the normal transmission and near the rear axle. A number of systems fielded by the manufacturer to recover energy during braking and beyond, and to reduce consumption. Eco Pro mode, for example, you can restrict the use of energy for heating and air conditioning.

Apart from some minor aesthetic detail, Active BMW 1 Series coupe concept is in effect, but without rear exhaust. Instrumentation, the usual fuel gauge has been replaced by a similar instrument that indicates the level of battery charge and the amount of watts used and recovered. It recharges in about 5 hours through a standard electrical outlet.

It will be produced around a thousand be tested on the streets of the United States, Europe and China in order to evaluate their daily use, in view of the future production of new clean vehicles scheduled for 2013.
