BMW Megacity: maybe not for sale

BMW had decided to offer his Megacity electric car not for sale but for rent short term would be a first indication on the outlook for this car, as stated by the sales director Ian Robertson, who pointed out that BMW located by looking traditional alternative to purchasing or leasing. "We will not sell the car, but car use," said Robertson Automobilwoche and to the concept proposed by Daimler car2go might be an interesting approach.

According to Robertson, more and more people living in big cities who seek a viable alternative to car ownership and proposals such as car-sharing can provide mobility without all the limitations imposed by having a car . The issue is that BMW would become difficult to recover the high costs of development and production with sales of Megacity only because the final cost of the vehicle is excessive for motorists.

Another problem for the sale could be the depreciation of the vehicle as it is difficult to calculate the cost of the battery depending on its duration. BMW should test the concept of short-term hiring later this year using the version ActiveE based on Series 1. Megacity electric car is the first large passenger compartment that provides a lightweight carbon fiber.

The final name of this model should be announced by February 21 next BMW.
