Geneva 2011: BMW tested over 1000 Active E

BMW is at the Geneva Motor Show (1st-13.3.2011) from the Active E. Of the electric vehicle based on the 1 Series is a test fleet of over 1000 vehicles are built at the Leipzig plant. Tested the Active E from this year in Europe, the USA and China. The vehicle has a capacity of 125 kW / 170 hp and maximum torque of 250 Newton meters.

Thus the electro-1er accelerated in 9 seconds from zero to 100 km / h. The range should be around 160 kilometers. The BMW Active E integrates a Vorserienversion of drive and energy storage in the future Mega City Vehicle partly identical, partly similar geometry. Except for a small scoop in the bonnet and a small trunk with 200 liters of volume can be found both inside and little difference in the standard BMW 1 Series Coupé.

Nevertheless, the body side developed almost 350 new components. The maximum speed of the research vehicle is electronically limited to 144 mph. Unlike the Mini offers the Active E not only four seats and an accelerator intermediate position, with the drive motor is disconnected and the Active E then glides without energy consumption (the so-called "Sailing").

The battery management system should also ensure that the range is reached almost independent of outside climatic conditions. Shall have the lithium ion energy storage is not only a cooling, but also a heater for winter use. (Ampnet / jri)
