Golf Cabriolet: the great return to Geneva

At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show (3-13 March) is back after almost eight years of absence, the Golf Cabriolet, a great classic on the issue of convertible cars. Proposal for the first time in 1979 with the first edition of the Golf, the Golf Cabriolet has accompanied many generations until 2004, when he left the scene replaced by the Eos coupe-cabriolet with a metal roof.

Externally, the Golf Cabrio faithfully follows the line of the Golf VI three doors up the pillar that is more inclined and reinforced because of the lack of roll-bar center that distinguished previous versions. The latter was replaced by a removable protective rollover, and is completely automatic.

The rear view, clean and streamlined, but gains new headlights with LED lights in the shape of "L" borrowed from the potent GTI. The new Golf Cabriolet uses a modern multi-layer fabric roof which allows those of comparable levels of soundproofing version two volumes, also with a modern electro-hydraulic system - operated at speeds below 30 km / h - will be able to open or close in just 9.5 seconds.

The Golf Cabrio will be available with six engines combined with a manual or dual-clutch DSG. The offer will include 6 engines, including turbocharged gasoline, "IST" and a diesel TDI, with a range of power that will go from 105 to 210 hp. Among the more interesting engines distinguishes the 1.6 TDI with 105 hp that will equip the BlueMotion version, stronger than an average consumption of just 4.4 l/100km, while the reported emissions are only about one of 117 g / km of CO2.

The production of the Golf Cabrio will be assigned to Karmann, the German company specializing in convertible cars and historical partner of Volkswagen, which threatened to close after the Financial Crisis of 2008, before being acquired by the same manufacturer Teutonic. the return of the Golf Cabrio has made it possible to summarize some 1,000 workers in the factory in Osnabruck, which will add another 800 skilled workers when the assembly lines will be fully operational.

The new Golf convertible will be distributed from the last quarter of 2011, although the pre-sales in Germany have already started with list prices starting at € 26,625. The arrival of the new model will not retire the current Eos, which will be repositioned in 2014 with a bigger and better finished model, built on the platform of the new Passat.
