Hyundai invests in the active safety of the tires

Mobis, Hyundai partner for the production of components, is developing a novel device for monitoring tire pressure (tire pressure monitoring system-TMPS), which will be used on future models of the Korean manufacturers from third parties. The air pressure inside each wheel is continuously monitored by TMPS installed in the tire, the analyzed data are transmitted in real time on-board computer of the car, so as to provide all relevant information to the driver (type of fault , sudden change in pressure, independent of the tire after a puncture, etc.)..

In this way the driver can be alerted in time to a possible problem, making it possible to secure an immediate repair. According to the component manufacturer, the new system is much higher than its rivals thanks to some innovative features that brings with it. Compared with similar devices is easier to install thanks to the use of an unusual rubber valve, is also 10% lighter than the competition because it uses a special battery with reduced size, which allows at the same time saving energy in 'order of 30%.

The development of TMPS by Hyundai could not have come at a better time: by 2013 all vehicles - weighing less than 3.5 tonnes - will be equipped with a system for monitoring tire pressure. The House then Seoul is playing ahead of the competition, even if they still do not know the development time of new TMPS and its marketing.
