Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 V6 CRD: Diesel Italian

In the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show 2011 (3-13 March), will expand the offering of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee with the introduction of the V6 3.0-liter CRD diesel engine 241 hp. The brand new engine was designed and created by the VM, an Italian company based in Cento (FE), which specializes in high-range diesel engines and has recently entered the orbit of Fiat Powertrain.

The new turbodiesel has been specifically designed for the European market, and will complement the Pentastar V6 3.6-liter V8 with 286 hp and 360 hp 5.7-liter already used by the American 4x4, as well as equip the most prestigious models of the Fiat Group -Chrysler. The new 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 unit developing a maximum power of 241 hp at 4000 rpm and maximum torque of 550 Nm from 1800giri/min, with average consumption reported by the House as 8.3 l/100 km, while the emissions amounted to 218 g / km of C02 emitted into the air.

The engine is made of a compacted graphite cast-iron block, cylinder heads with double overhead camshaft with chain drive head and four valves per cylinder are made of aluminum, as well as the oil sump. For the pistons are the molten aluminum is used, while the common rail injection system uses technology from 1800 Bar II MultiJet Fiat Powertrain's patented and used for the first time on the 1.3-liter turbodiesel Fiat Punto EVO.

Regarding the charge of the engine, there was entrusted to a turbocharger with variable geometry Garrett VGT 2056 combined with an air-air intercooler. The engine also uses cast iron exhaust manifolds and an oxidation catalytic converter, as well as offering standard particulate filter system and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), which comply with European legislation € 5.

The overall engine displacement is 2987 cm3, while its dimensions are quite compact: 695 mm long, 729 mm wide and 697.5 mm in height, with a total weight of up to 230 kg. The new engine will be available from June in the fitting Laredo, Limited and Overland. In a second step will be joined by a declination less powerful 190 hp at 4,000 rpm and 440 Nm of torque available over between 1600-2800 rpm.
