Lexus 200h Ct

Ct Lexus Lexus 200h is the first full hybrid vehicle segment C-Premium, which will be available from March 12 at the dealership. Now we are in Lisbon, where we are testing on urban and suburban roads for an interesting first contact. The discreet and elegant line is the result of L-Finesse design, made entirely in the Research Center in Japan and contributes to the excellent Cd of 0.28.

The high waistline and body ribs make it clear idea of extreme dynamism. The rear spoiler with integrated complete the dynamic profile of the side. The Lexus-style front grille gives the car a powerful and distinctive front, which conveys a feeling of great dynamic responsiveness as well as strength.

Discovering the full hybrid: the Lexus 200h coach is calling from a car environment, without having to settle for lower quality standards. With the experience gained over the years, we remember that the RX 400h was introduced in the "far", 2005, Lexus now offers a car capable of a fuel efficiency of 3.8 l/100 km, CO2 emissions of just 87 g / km, NOx emissions of only 3 mg / km and particulate emissions to zero.

These are not trifles: These values allow Lexus to establish this as the "cleanest car in the world". What makes a model CT200h decidedly uncommon, full hybrid transmission is the fruit of the union and the synergistic operation of two engines. On the one hand we have a heat engine, or the 1.8 VVT-i petrol engine from 99 hp Atkinson cycle, the other a powerful electric motor sixth KW.

The latter is able to continuously support the gasoline engine but also, given its potential to provide autonomy to drive the car. And here is the difference between the technology "Full Hybrid" than the "Mild Hybrid", where the electric motor has the sole purpose of assisting the gasoline engine.

Speaking in particular of the electric motor, it consists of two main elements: the first performs a function of engine itself while the second provides the production of energy (during charging) and also acts as a starter. The combination of the two engines is particularly beneficial. On the one hand the heat engine cycle Atkinsos we got to experience how smooth and quiet, the other a powerful electric motor capable of delivering all its torque instantly.

The combined power resulting from the union of the two engines is 136 hp and a combined cycle consumption of 3.8 L/100km are declared with acceleration 0-100km / h equal to 10.3 sec. Thanks to the hybrid car at the start and at low speeds is powered only by electric motor. This allows a great fluidity and unexpected noise.

It should also be noted that, when starting from stop, you can use the mode "EV" or use only the electric motor with a duration of about 2 km. The latter is activated using power stored in the battery pack nichelmetallidrato from 201 V. Not only that: the electric motor is powered with a maximum current of 500 V in case of driving modes "Eco" and "Normal".

However, the voltage may reach its maximum (650 V) when full acceleration or driving mode "Sport". This also allows for a more immediate response to the impulses of acceleration to deliver maximum benefits. While driving, when necessary, the gasoline engine starts instantly and without any need for interaction by the driver in order to deliver the required power.

At cruising speeds the petrol engine is what provides much of the traction electric motor that plays a supporting role. In the case of strong acceleration, the electric motor and the gasoline that provide the maximum of their power. The generation of electricity to assure sufficient charge to the battery can be done in two ways: via regenerative braking or by supporting the engine.

In the first case, during each deceleration and braking, the electric motor, driven by inertia of the wheels, which generates power from the battery is stored. In the second case, instead of the internal combustion engine, providing the feeding of the electric motor power producer. Another advantage of CT 200h hybrid is definitely off the gasoline engine during stops is (or traffic light) is in the early stages of reversing.

This, too, which could be considered a detail, but we believe that it is not, helps reduce emissions. The guide is managed, as usual Lexus Hybrid Drive, through a program "E-CVT" electronically controlled, which simulates the effect of a stepless acceleration by allowing a gradual and very fluid.

The shifter is "shift by wire" operation that allows a fast and reliable. In this post we have deliberately focused our attention on the hybrid system, because it is a topic that certainly in the coming months will be the subject of interest by a public that shows more curiosity and consideration to environmental issues.

In the next post a closer look to the interior, including on-board information systems, and driving impressions. Regarding prices, the price list is confirmed Lexus CT200h published last November.
