Press Launch Saab XWDays: all-wheel road

There was enough snow again, as Saab presented in the Austrian Alps are now at the XWD all-wheel drive XWDays. It is an electronically controlled four-wheel system that delivers torque there, where it is needed. This prevents unwanted oversteer, understeer and instability. Result of the Saab XWD is better handling, better stability and a sporty driving experience.

During acceleration on dry roads up to 80 percent of the power is transmitted to the rear wheels to provide maximum acceleration. With increasing speed, power and torque transfer to the front wheels. At a constant speed on a straight road up to 95 percent of the torque is transmitted to the front wheels to ensure optimum stability and minimum fuel consumption.

Cornering and simultaneously accelerating more power is sent to the rear axle, which causes an easier turning of the vehicle. When pulling away in non-slippery conditions when the vehicle is, for example, with one wheel on ice and the other on pavement, the wheel with better traction is supplied with more power.

This is due to the electronically controlled differential (ELSD) to the rear axle. So the best cross-wheel with up to 80 percent of the rear axle torque is supplied. The same happens when driving at constant speed, and show up unexpectedly ice or a water surface on the roadway. When an evasive maneuver at high speed increases the eLSD stability, forcing both rear wheels at the same speed.

In the Saab High performance models, in addition a newly developed front suspension is used. It bears the name HiPerStrut - short for High Performance Strut, (high-performance strut). The link to chassis and subframe are those of a MacPherson strut. While driving in the snow-covered Alps, showed the four-wheel system in all situations can be.

Both when driving on ice and snow when driving on any weaknesses came to light. The Saab cars have mastered both the uphill and the downhill. Saab must not hide in the field of wheel technology. This will help the Swedish car manufacturers with their owners from the Netherlands to reach their destination in Germany.
