Rolls-Royce 102EX, the electric Phantom

Nobody would have bet a few years ago, but today is a reality. Rolls-Royce arrives at the Geneva Motor Show 2011 with the 102EX, an electric version of Phantom that the brand aims to open the door to the world ecology. What do you think? Leave your comments, the most interesting will be published in the journal Hwy.

Alternatively, this news debate on our forums. The tendency to show environmental proposals in the classroom becomes more pronounced as the years pass. Geneva is not exactly an exception, where we saw gambling as vettura Laboratory Ferrari or Porsche 918 Spyder. However, for the moment, it appeared that the luxury segment only dared to hybrid versions and had some qualms about launching into the pool of electricity.

Until today. And surprisingly, is Rolls-Royce who has dared to explore the universe almost exclusively to date and municipal utilities. The British manufacturer will arrive at Geneva Motor Show 2011 with a variant of the Phantom powered by electricity that is called the 102EX. This is a unique prototype intended as a test model is viable and whether or not to include this alternative technology within the brand.

The idea of Rolls-Royce is to allow reference customers, journalists and test the model and contribute their views. Thus, the brand will develop a technology to match, improving their autonomy and their ability to function in adverse weather conditions. Updates of the mechanics and consumer opinion will be reflected on a website, www.

electricluxury. com open this week. In short, we talked about a project that will have its kick-off in the Swiss sample and is not expected, a priori, which will lead to a series model. Of course, it's a pretty risky bet if one considers that the philosophy of Rolls-Royce has never been quite closely the environment: the Phantom, with a mechanical 6.7-liter V12 and 460 hp, is a car marks an urban consumption of 23.2 l/100 km.

The manufacturer has not provided any information on the technology that will demonstrate the Rolls-Royce 102EX, will be on March 1 when we have all the information and pictures of it. Thus, the British brand joins the Geneva electric proposals like the Toyota iQ EV, the Nissan hybrid Esflow or S as Porsche Panamera Hybrid.
