The Toyota IQ in electric version

Toyota will present at the Geneva concept of an electric car of his IQ, already anticipated by the FT-EV prototype. However, this would practically a final version that will go on sale in 2012. The IQ EV will have the electric motor based on the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive technology with a new lithium ion battery pack located under the platform, according to Toyota, will provide a range of 105 km on a single charge.

The prototype will be tested on European roads this year and the House plans to introduce the EV on the market using a lease program. Toyota also plans to export the IQ EV in the U.S. and in other potential markets as may be appropriate. No mention of price but Toyota had said last November that the battery that supplies would be much cheaper than those used on electric cars rivals like the Mitsubishi i-MiEV or Nissan Leaf, both larger than the IQ.

Toyota aims to boost its range of environmentally conscious vehicles with the introduction of 11 hybrid models by the end of 2012. Plug-in hybrid based on the Prius will be launched in early 2012 in Europe, USA and Japan, with sales forecast to more than 50 000 copies a year. The study is also a fuel cell hybrid sedan with sales expected to begin in 2015.

Toyota is also developing a new type of battery that can outperform lithium-ion ones currently used on the EV.
