Volvo V60 at the Geneva Motor Show plug-in hybrid

Volvo will be a very attentive to the environment that will be at the Geneva Motor Show 2011, where to draw the eyes of the fans there will be a V60 hybrid plug-in, final prototype (as Volvo calls it), low emission produced by the Swedish manufacturer in collaboration with Vattenfall, a leading provider of electricity in the Scandinavian country.

Equipped with an electric propulsion system and diesel engines, the Volvo V60 plug-in hybrid, when powered solely by electricity, provides a range of 50 km, while using the turbo-diesel engine that reaches 1200 km, with fuel consumption is expected to clarify that 1.9 liters per 100 km, with CO2 emissions equal to 49g/km.

"No industry or organization can address the climate challenge on its own. Our mission is to develop self practically free of carbon dioxide but a sustainable future must be created with the cooperation of all members of society," said Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO Volvo, which he then continued, "This project shows how collaboration between experts in different areas will be able to get even closer to the transition from individual products free of carbon dioxide in a real climate-friendly lifestyle." Technically, the D5 diesel 2.4-liter 5-cylinder and twin turbocharger that delivers 215 hp and maximum torque of 440 Nm is associated with the system ERAD (Electric Rear Axle Drive), consisting of an electric motor powered by 70 hp by a 12 kWh lithium battery, all managed by a six-speed automatic transmission.

The work on the Volvo V60 plug-in hybrid proceeds in parallel with the Volvo C30 Electric, ecological variant powered entirely by electricity, "These two types of car are complementary. With a hybrid plug-in, the driver depend entirely on the stations charge when traveling long distances.

The future market for electric cars will include a mix of fully electric cars and plug-in hybrid, "says the Swedish company is still the number one Stefan Jacoby. After the presentation at the show in Switzerland, the development of the V60 plug-in hybrid will continue for about a year, so that the plans of Volvo debuted in dealerships should take place by 2012.
