Audi Q3: debut at the Shanghai Motor Show

Audi chose the Shanghai Motor Show (21-28 April 2011) to present the highly anticipated Q3, premium compact crossover that will challenge in the near future, the BMW X1. The choice to debut at China as an important model for the house with the four rings is absolutely not a case, given the increasingly important Asian markets that are gaining in the budgets of European manufacturers.

The audio history Q3 begins more than four years ago, when at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007 was presented with the concept Audi Cross Coupéquattro from which the new German 4x4 will take most of the styling cues. In the years after the project was temporarily shelved due to poor economics of the situation in 2009 that devastated our markets, but now the top Audi considers the time ripe to explore this new and promising segment.

About 4.30 meters long, the Q3 will be built on the platform of the new Tiguan, and will use many of the drivers of Volkswagen cousin. At launch there will undoubtedly be the four-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline TFSI 170 hp, backed by the propeller of equal capacity, but capable of delivering 200 hp.

As the supply of a diesel SUV will be equipped with the famous German 2.0-liter TDI declined in the more powerful 170 hp version. In the second stage will be the debut of a V6 turbodiesel that will boast a capacity of more than 200 hp. It seems uncertain the arrival of a version equipped with a hybrid scheme (petrol / electric) and a variant sporting branded Rennsport (RS).

The drivers of Q3 can be fitted by a six-speed manual transmission or, alternatively, by the automatism-S-Tronic sequential. The Audi Q3 will be produced in the Seat factory in Martorell in Spain, where 1,200 workers are employed who specialize through a training course organized by the Generalitat of Catalonia.

The production line of Q3, which will come in full swing next month, has cost the manufacturer an investment of 300 million € and will make possible the recruitment of another 700 people will be added to Seat 1,500 employees already working in the plant. The Audi Q3 will arrive on European markets this autumn and will be produced at a rate of 100,000 units annually.
