BMW TwinPower to cut emissions

The battleship is marching Bavarian BMW sent on the road ecology. This time it is not electric or alternative fuel engines. We are still so dear to the "endothermic" for which the German manufacturer is developing more and more the application of technology TwinPower Turbo. In short, this system - adopted for the first time in 2009 on the 5 Series 3 liters GTV6 - best combines the benefits of supercharging "twin scroll", direct fuel injection and Valvetronic variable control of the distribution to improve the performance the engines, lower fuel consumption and reduce harmful emissions.

If during the period between 1995 and 2010, BMW has reduced by 30% the carbon emissions of its engines, the next goal to be achieved by 2020 is to limit the CO2 emissions by 25%. A result that the system should help TwinPower to score, especially in future projects: one speaks, in fact, 3-cylinder petrol engines for BMW and Mini compact next new generation.

Meanwhile, the last application is the one on the X1 Turbo TwinPower xDrive presented at the 28th Geneva Motor Show. The first on a 4-cylinder engine.
