Brazil: Volkswagen to February than Fiat

They keep the ups and downs of the Brazilian automotive market: after the fall of 36% recorded in January (also because of the credit restrictions imposed by the central bank), the data of February of the national dealers (Fenabrave) show an increase of 12 % over the previous month and 24% compared to February 2010.

But the most important news is that Fiat has lost the scepter of the best-selling brand in the country, since it was ousted by Volkswagen has long been well integrated among Brazilian consumers: 108,908 and 107,407 vehicles of the German to the Lingotto and market share respectively by 22.7 and 21.98%.

These latest figures relate to the first two months of 2011. The data of February, however, should not suggest a sudden health of the automotive sector in South America: the sharp drop in January, in fact, had urged dealers to huge discounts to customers, who rushed to change car. Sérgio Reze, Fenabrave president, estimates that 2011 will end up compared to 2010, although at rates lower than those of February: "I believe that most 4.5% is more plausible."
