Hyundai Veloster green on the routing of Navteq

The new Hyundai Veloster has selected NAVTEQ as a supplier of advanced content for the new navigation platform that allows the calculation of the path "greener" (green route) as well as traditional options "shorter" and "faster". Hyundai developed the new software based on NAVTEQ digital map data with the addition of ADAS attributes driving assistance (slopes, heights and radii of curves) that allow to take into account more precise geometric data on the carriageway and the conformation of ground in the calculation of the routes of navigation.

Everything was integrated with data from Navteq Traffic Patterns that can predict when and where traffic jams occur, so you can choose alternate routes when traffic is flowing. Together, these attributes allow the browser to locate the edge of paths with minimum fuel consumption. "It does not happen very often to see the C-segment cars equipped with the option to choose the path 'greener', but we try to exploit every opportunity to encourage more careful driving and capable of reducing CO2 emissions," he commented Allan Rushforth, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Europe GmbH.

Comparative tests - conducted with the help of Magneti Marelli - on options for calculating the route, "faster" and "greener" in various cities and urban areas like Paris, Frankfurt, New York and Chicago show that the "green route "allows a fuel saving of at least 6% per trip. Further investigations conducted by Navteq revealed that the "green route" is at the forefront in terms of interest on the part of motorists, followed by eco-driving "or" green driving "(which warns the driver of the speed and gear more suited the particular soil type).

The new navigation software will be used in the map updates from the group this spring and will allow motorists to use the advanced feature "green route" on a new Veloster.
