Japan Earthquake: GM donates $ 500,000

The General Motors Foundation today approved an immediate contribution of $ 500,000 to American Red Cross to support the Japanese people affected by the earthquake. The Detroit company also provided each station multimedia work of its employees to direct web link through which donations to charitable entity addressed.

"The humanitarian assistance is an important part of the work of the Foundation and we are responding to the request for aid that followed this terrible devastation," said John T. Montford, chairman of the GM Foundation and consultant to the company's relations with the U.S. government and foreign.

"There's a great sense of solidarity among GM employees, and I know that this spirit is to make a difference to help relief efforts in Japan." Since its inception in 1976, the GM Foundation has donated millions of dollars in favor of areas hit by natural disasters and helped organize local efforts.

Recent support in cash and cash helped the rescue efforts after the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, and Haiti.
