Japan: Mazda responds to halt production and emergency assistance

Mazda has, to ensure the safety of its employees, their families and suppliers in the affected region and to support country-wide emergency operations, decided in its approximately 1,000 kilometers from the crisis region of remote stations in Hiroshima and Hofu in southwestern Japan from now until Wednesday, 16 March, to suspend production.

Other measures to be announced. In a first reaction supported Mazda rescue and relief work in the region with emergency assistance in the amount of 30 million yen. The company will monitor the situation and continue to provide much needed donations and staff. So far, no Mazda employees from the consequences of the disaster are affected.

Even a Mazda Headquarters in Tokyo, and the Mazda development center in Yokohama were spared from damage. Information on other Mazda facilities and suppliers are constantly sought. 'Currently, Mazda also determined the impact on the export of its vehicles from Japan to Europe by ship, but the normally via the southern route towards Taiwan and thus away from the disaster area will be settled.
