Japan: the situation

Tension remains very high in Japan since the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit the country a few days ago. Now the threat comes from some nuclear plants affected by the effects of the earthquake and still out of control. Of course, as we had anticipated, the damage is significant even for the Japanese manufacturer, directly or indirectly affected by this disaster.

We then make the situation manufacturer by manufacturer. Some of them, as is well known, also manufacture motorcycles. Honda: up to 20 March each activity at the production is suspended. We talk about the factories Sayama, Ogawa, Tochigi (where there were major damage, here there were 1 dead and 30 wounded), Hamamatsu, Suzuka, and Kumamoto.

The manufacturer has however announced the launch of a program of support to the Japanese people: they will be donated to charity less than € 2,700,000. Will also provide diesel generators 1000 and 5000 gas cylinders and specialized personnel in the proper investigation of these devices.

The loss of self is estimated at 16,000 units. Nissan manufacturing in the factories of Oppama, Yokohama, Nissan Shatai and Kyushu is divided yesterday, March 18th will be the turn of Tochigi (here two injured) and Iwaki plant (which produces engines). The Nissan's global headquarters (located in Yokohama), the Nissan Technical Centre (Atusgi,) and the Nissan Advanced Technology Center (Atsugi) are already operational.

These days one is left open to provide assistance to the population, providing water, food and blankets. The repercussions of these events on the Nissan business outside the territory of Japan are still under study but the house ensures that stock levels in Europe are sufficient to support sales in the near future.

Also because the models sold in the old continent are mainly produced in the plant Sunderland (Qashqai, Qashqai +2, Notes, Juke) and in Spanish in Barcelona (Navara, Pathfinder, NP300, and commercial vehicles) and Avila (Cabstar and Atleon), while the new Micra is produced in the new Indian plant in Chennai.

Less happy situation for the cars for the U.S., thousands of cars ready to be sent were damaged in the port of Hitachi and Miyagi Service Center, one of the more violent areas affected by the tsunami. Among these, about 2,300 specimens of Infiniti cars, as the M, EX and FX. Nissan will provide work vehicles and medicines to the population.

Toyota: The house is said to have suffered a drastic reduction in production of about 40,000 units. There are 12 closed factories and plants will reopen today, even if the start of the activity could still be postponed. Among the systems affected are those of Miyagi, the newly launched and where it assembles the new Yaris, and the adjacent establishment of the supplier Toyota Boshoku Cororation.

Mitsubishi: the house, its facilities will be closed until further notice and will donate € 260,000 to assist people affected by natural disaster will also provide some means of relief. "None of our factories has been hit by the earthquake in Tohoku, but some suppliers have been damaged." Mazda: the house has resumed production yesterday and exports to Europe should not be affected.

Instead will remain closed until March 20 factories in Hiroshima and Hofu. The house has also allocated € 260,000 to support the people and the rescuers.
