Mitsubishi Global Small Concept in Geneva

Mitsubishi chose the 2011 Geneva Motor Show (3-13 March) to show the world its Global Small Concept, a prototype that shows roughly the next generation Colt. The future city car will be produced and assembled at the new Thai manufacturer of the three diamonds, but its marketing is destined for many countries around the world, confirming the strategy defined by the same Japanese manufacturer: "A global product designed for the global village" .

3.74 m long, 1.68 wide 1.49 m high me, the prototype was made on the new platform called e-Compact and looks like one of the cars among the most compact segment B. Its simple and functional design follows that of some of the latest Mitsubishi models, but without the stylistic exaggerations of typical show car.

The front features a small calendar that combines the thin hexagonal-shaped headlights with LED technology. The style gained a degree of determination by adopting a large lower air intake and two side slits positioned in front of the wheel of the car, designed to cool the brakes better.

The side is distinguished by a deep vein that joins the front and tail style, it takes some stylistic motifs from the front like the shape of the headlamps and air intakes. The range of engines, at least initially, will be made by the new units from 1.0 and 1.2 liters of family MIVEC, both petrol-powered and equipped with Stop & Start system, device, energy recovery during braking, and special tires with low rolling resistance measuring 185/55 R 16.

The new architecture of the platform-Compact and will in the near future to adapt the car to an all-electric scheme, turning the car in Global Small friendly. The transmission will be adopted a modern stepless CVT, but it is not excluded in some markets also use a more traditional 5-speed manual.

As noted above, the Global Small will be built at the Mitsubishi plant in Laem Chabang Industrial Estate, located in the province of Chonburi, Thailand, at a rate of 150,000 units per year, which can be expanded to 200,000. Mitsubishi is not the first Japanese manufacturer to produce its own WorldWhether in Thailand, in fact, already produces the Nissan in the country of southeast Asia, the small Micra, taking advantage of government incentives that are attracting in recent years more and more foreign investment in this country.
