The new Opel Calibra will be convertible

The wait is over, in just over a year it will debut on the market the new Opel Calibra, the historic home of the sport of lightning from 1989 to 1997 has captivated audiences with 238,647 units sold. Heir of Opel Manta, the Calibra was the European response to the new Japanese era sports (such as the Toyota Celica) that "invaded" the continent in those years.

Due to its very successful line and technological know-how and mechanical tier, the German sports managed to stay on the crest of a wave for 13 years before being replaced by abstraction coupe. To repeat the success in the '90s, the recipe for the new Opel Calibra sull'apprezzatissima flagship Insignia will be based, from which the new sport of Rüsselsheim resume many styling cues and technical solutions, but unlike the older generation of German coupe, at least not at first will be offered in coupe, convertible, but only under construction.

As for the engine range, the Teutonic sport should be equipped with more powerful engines, both petrol and diesel, the aforementioned Insignia. Among the many engines, there is also a powerful supercharged 2.8-liter V6 that also equips the German four-door signed OPC. This engine develops 325 hp and 425 Nm of torque and combined with permanent four wheel drive and automatic transmission-equipped six-speed sequential.

Just remember this model to many enthusiasts, the sporty Calibra 2.0 16V 4x4 Turbo 1991, with remarkable benefits for those years: the turbo, accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in just 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 245 km / h, was also rather too self-label because of the use of series of metal catalyst.

As for diesel engines, the new calibration will be introduced to the generous 2.0-liter turbo with 160 hp and 350 Nm of torque, the engine that will most certainly appreciated in our country. This unit will be equipped with only front traction, or alternatively can be coupled to the quattro permanent, while the change you may choose between a six-speed manual or the automatic, also with six speeds.

The new model should also mark the return of Opel in the DTM racing, in fact, according to rumors the calibration is intended to participate in the exciting European championship, but not before the 2013 season.
