Toyota Yaris HSD, Prius +, EV-86 prototype and FT II: Geneva Motor Show 2011

Toyota presented at the Geneva Motor Show a 4 prototypes: Concept HSD Yaris, Prius +, IQ and EV Concept II-86 FT. The four cars anticipate many standard models of great importance in the market expected, called upon to strengthen Toyota's position in the world of hybrid and electric and in the case of the FT-86, a way to return to produce even sports cars.

The Toyota Yaris Concept HSD anticipates both the Yaris and the new generation of its unusual hybrid version, which goes on sale since mid-2012 in Europe and around which has developed this totally new project. The aesthetics of the prototype will be given to the hybrid model, with 18 "wheels, different air intakes, solar panels on the roof and front Led lights, while the mechanics (of which details are not yet known) takes over the Hybrid Synergy Drive recognized early on Auris and Prius HSD.

The latter has already sold 27,000 copies in nine months. The Toyota Prius + represents the expected 7-seater people carrier version of the Prius, Prius came in the wake of V presented at the show in Detroit and has 5 seats. On sale since mid-2012, the Prius + resumes meccanida Hybrid Synergy Drive as the other models by adding, for the first time lithium ion batteries, most compact and lightweight, located in the center console front so as to leave room for the third row of seats.

The line was designed to maintain this family-feeling with the 5-door model, but also allows you to limit the drag coefficient to 0.29. During the 2012 debut also the expectation Prius Plug-in, capable of a range of 20 km in electric mode, up to 100 km / h and prepared to declare a total average of 59 g / km CO2 do.

Toyota EV Prototype was designed to extend the studies on sustainable mobility. Using the base of the Toyota IQ has created a car that will be subjected to a series of tests in 2011, based on the experience gained in 40 years of research with hybrid vehicles, electric and fuel-cell of the Japanese.

The Prototype EV is equipped with an electric motor of 47 kW with 11 kwh lithium-ion batteries located under the seats and has taken charge of slow and fast: the second, 200 V, enables the total recharge in 4 hours and the rapid 80% in 15 minutes. The maximum range is 105 km, compared with a maximum speed of 125 km / h and acceleration 0-100 km / h in 14 seconds.

The FT-86 II, finally, of which we have already spoken, is the second prototype of the coupe, jointly developed with Subaru, which will debut on the market at the end of 2011 and will mark the return of Toyota in the field of sports cars. Adopt the rear-wheel drive, manual transmission and a naturally aspirated Boxer engine with a lightweight and designed primarily for the pleasure of driving, with an eye also to the list price, which promises to be competitive.

The prototype shown at Geneva was noted for the aerodynamics much more elaborate than the first concept, we will see which of the two "schools of thought" will end up actually on the market, or if the range will be wider than expected, with productions more or less aggressive .
