Fiat 500C: New York is "discovered" for the U.S.

New York Motor Show, which opens April 20, Fiat will show a preview to the public official Fiat 500C version designed for U.S. customers: USA, Canada and Mexico will be the markets where the "small" convertible will be sold , starting from next month. Like clockwork, here is the Fiat 500C stars and stripes.

The "open" version of the model in recent weeks has started marketing, was in fact announced in the spring. The Mexican origin of production (Toluca) is the same model of the "closed". In all probability (the first official information about the selection do not provide any indication of displacement to be proposed), including the matching engine and gearbox remain unchanged: MultiAir 102 hp and 133 Nm of torque with the change, a choice of automatic six-speed manual or five-speed gearbox.

Same as the origin of the shell, which is derived verbatim from 500 U.S. made more robust to overcome the stringent requirements of the United States on safety of the occupants. The hood, double layer fabric (the same design philosophy of the 500C "European", so) runs along the entire length of the interior, and opens up the rear window (included), and is electrically operated, with a button on the board, up to 100 km / h.

It will be available in three color combinations to match body color choices at 14 and 12 colors for the interior. As for the selling price will be announced later. We recall in this connection that the Fiat 500 starts at U.S. $ 16,000 (about € 11,100). As we already pointed out in recent weeks, at the launch of the 500 "sedan" in the U.S., the two versions - European and American - are different for some technical features.

Summarize them briefly. The engine choice for the 500 built in Toluca MultiAir is 1.4, with a power of 101 hp at 6500 rpm and 133 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. The multi is matched, your choice, a five-speed manual gearbox, as amended in relations to improve fuel economy, or six-speed automatic with Auto Stick that lets you control the gears even in manual mode.

In terms of body, this has been redesigned to meet the claims of rigidity and suspension required by the U.S. market, and obtain a reduction of noise and vibration also updated the ABS on all four wheels, with a new design for front brake calipers to increase braking performance. Increased the capacity of the fuel tank.

The interior has received modifications to the front seats (the new center armrest and cushions to provide extra comfort on longer trips) and the steering wheel (new and revised commands the actuator to make the car more stable on the highway and less sensitive to side winds ). After the 500 and 500C, it is reasonable to expect a quick hour third step of launching in North America, the "small" in key Abarth.
