Mercedes recalls 186,000 M-Class SUV

In the United States and Germany, Mercedes began to recall some old models of the M-Class SUV for problems related to the automatic speed control device (Cruise Control). The news was announced by the NHTSA, the federal authority which oversees the American road safety. The vast majority of vehicles involved in the measure were built between 2000 and 2002, although there is some unit of Mercedes AMG registered between 2000 and 2004, for a total of 186,000 units, including 50,000 in Germany and 136,000 across the Atlantic.

The company in Stuttgart said that so far no incidents have been reported for this defect but it can happen that, while pressing the brake to disengage the speed control device, the medium does not slow down. The recall procedure is partly because it has reached several reports of such problems and complaints by motorists.

While waiting for the car has been repaired, Mercedes recommends that motorists should be in such critical condition to switch off manually the "cruise control" with the lever beside the steering wheel or by pressing firmly on the brake pedal.
