"Opel Service School Turns 80

The customer service training for Opel is 80 years old. The Rüsselsheim automobile manufacturer called 1931 the factory customer service training to life. The courses of the school were addressed to "managers and agents" of customer service departments at dealerships in order to ensure high quality work.

From the spring of 1931 twelve to 15 Mechanics are trained at two-week courses and receive a diploma after passing the exam. The first school in the Rüsselsheim plant site includes a classroom, a pattern shop and a parts warehouse. The availability of photo and film screening equipment is technically on the amount of time.

In order to reach as many mechanics of the workshops, the "Opel Service School" in 1935 the "Flying Service School" is expanded. The resources used vehicles are fully equipped with tools and machines and so the trainer hold some more week courses on site at the Opel plants. 1944 War breaks for a short time, the steadily developing teaching and learning model.

1947 instructors taught again in two days Notkursen in Rüsselsheim, and five years later welcomed the school's 50 000th customer service operators. The facility grows to 19 classrooms, two schools and a body Lackierschule. 1966 Opel opened in four years before the Bochum plant built another school.

The tradition of walking school from the 1930s is 1971 with the "rolling service school" resume. Today, around 26 000 training sessions per year - spread over five training centers across Germany.
