Fiat TwinAir International Engine of the Year 2011

And the winner is ... TwinAir! The sentence certainly related to the environment of the cinema, it is not random and it refers to one of the most important awards for Automotive worldwide. This is the International Engine of the Year Awards, held in Germany at the Expo in Stuttgart. The event, attended by the vast majority of car manufacturers, was chaired by a jury of 76 journalists and industry experts from 36 different countries.

The engine, currently available on the Fiat 500 and 500C, impressed the judges for its enormous power, especially when compared to its small size, reduced emissions and fuel consumption very low. All this has ensured that the Twin has been allocated four awards: "Best New Engine 2011", "Best Green Engine 2011", "Best Sub 1-Liter Engine" and the prestigious world title of "International Engine of the Year 2011.

According to Dean Slavnic, editor of Engine Technology International and co-president of International Engine of the Year Awards: "Fiat has produced one of the greatest engines of all time. When we launched the show in 1999, who would have thought that an engine two cylinders could have won the International Engine of the Year? His triumph is a clear indication of what people want: powerful engines but have low fuel consumption and emissions.

Only a two-cylinder can provide all these qualities at once. "As for the other car, the second place goes to BMW, capable of winning four awards. In particular, the prize of the category" 3 - to 4-liter liter "with its 4.0-liter V8 mounted on the M3, the "2.5-liter to 3-liter" using the 3.0-liter Twin Turbo, the "1.8-liter to 2-liter" with the 2.0-liter Twin Turbo Diesel mounted on the 123d and the X1 and, finally, the category "1.4-liter to 1.8-liter" thanks to the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine developed with PSA Peugeot Citroen and pursuant to the Mini.

Together with the third step of the podium, the group Volkswagen, which, thanks to its 1.4-liter TSI engine Twincharger, triumphed in the category "1-liter to 1.4-liter" and Audi, winning the category "2-liter to 2.5-liter" with his huge 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder mounted on the TT RS and RS3.

But the good news for Fiat is not over. The 4.5-liter V8 from the Ferrari 458 Italy was in fact awarded, in addition to the prize in the category "Above 4 - liter, "the title of" Best Performance Engine ", leading the team in Turin to win six awards, ie half of the available awards.
