Saab is planning a new modular platform for 9-3 III

The third-generation Saab 9-3 will be implemented starting with a new modular architecture, called Phoenix, and turns to new segments ranging from the Saab 9-2 (4.20 meters) and the future flagship 9-7 (5.5 meters). According to reports from Autocar, in turn, primed by an internal source, the Swedish manufacturer would therefore have chosen to abandon the platform used to build bone by 9-3 II alternative, more versatile and multifunctional, with MacPherson front suspension and a innovative five-arm multilink in the rear for lower segment cars and HiPer Strut scheme for high-end sedans.

However, there is no certainty about the models involved in the operation: to date are confirmed sun 9-3, 9-5 and 9-4X new generation, while the projects are simple 9-2 and 9-7.
