In a recent interview with Salon in New York, Olivier Francois, Responsible and Lancia brands of Chrysler, said that the Ypsilon not set sail for the Americas. Contrary to what has been discussed since its submission, the small Lancia will not contribute to the downsizing of Chrysler in the U.S. so as not to annoy the Fiat 500.
A first assessment of marketing for sure gave the interest of a new generation of American motorists about the B-segment cars, certainly increased in the past, but in the light of commercial perfectible Smart city car and other competition still seems brave launch passionately in what remains a niche market concentrated in big towns across the continent.
The 500 and the Mini are going very well, but their success is due more to their glamorous image and saucy than a mass conversion from the myth of the pick-up from the breeder of buffalo culture of the "small but sufficient." In light of such considerations, the marketing department's Chrysler Group has been assessed as a dangerous overlap product offering two-segment A / B within the same group, albeit with different brands.
The Chrysler Ypsilon keeps in line and size are Italian and very similar to that 500 launched in the U.S. as an "icon of Italian style." The only real difference (also the mechanism is very similar) in view of customers from overseas would be the 5-door, however well strettine for the rating of the average North American customers ...
The line of the Ypsilon, presented in Geneva in June and on our streets, is full of references to past and present production of the Lancia brand, being the last independent creation, the result of a project already well-launched intercontinental Pima agreements of the Fiat Group. Although the front you can refer to a vague reference to the Chrysler PT Cruiser longer in production, with a large shield and a pair of horizontal bars with horizontal optical transparent, it is very difficult to assimilate this product range today Chrsyler, made in America by squadratissime 300, Voyager 200.
Assessing the risk of distorting the image of the brand and to annoy the little Italian competitor, champion of the great return Fiat Group has decided to keep the Lancia Ypsilon in Europe, and the twin Chrysler in Japan, South Africa and the United Kingdom. A similar fate seems to be reserved for the Delta, where it was discussed as a possible import in the U.S.
Chrysler 100. The export project seems to have been questioned by Italian-American manager to reassess costs in the face of any profits. Nevertheless, a C-segment sedan with dimensions already over-sized market nostrano (4.5 meters) could complement the best Chrysler down. But the Americans are traditionally linked to the 3-volume sedans, and the original car body of the Delta, 5-door hatch-back at the expense of long wheelbase, which is already in the Old Continent has not been fully understood, it might be a weakness on reactionary American market.
