The Aston Martin V12 Vantage Zagato has won the Design Award for Concept Cars & Prototypes at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2011, thanks to the votes of the public present at the event. The coupe was created to celebrate 50 years since the birth of the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato, the first example of cooperation between the two brands and is based on the glorious V12 Vantage.
The sample submitted at the Villa D'Este is configured for competition and anticipates the car that will take part in June in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, but Aston Martin makes no bones about the opportunities for a limited edition series homologated for road use. Zagato, for its part, has combined the traits typical Aston with some design touches, like the double bubble roof, the all-new rear and the car's overall proportions, built of hand-machined aluminum.
A curiosity: the polished alloy wheels of the first photos for the event were replaced with similar models, painted in matte black, much more suited to the image and character of the prototype racing.
