The instrumental data speed performance and are only interested in part. To analyze the new Lancia Ypsilon should be assessed very different numbers that describe the character of the car with greater relevance at the time of purchase you can choose from 16 body shades, 4 shades of two-tone interior trim and 6.
After 25 years and 4 generations, the utilitarian Chivasso therefore does not lose his soul chic and elegant, does not lose the middle-class accent that is the true hallmark in this segment. The Lancia CEO Olivier Francois speaks earnestly of luxury affordable luxury, affordable luxury, luxury as a right.
With these words, claims the right to pleasure, while maintaining solutions and ambitions premium car made more flexible thanks to a convenience previously unknown. The introduction of five-door hatchback proves to be a very apt choice, because the combine functional and aesthetic aspect: the personal side is clean, and the trend of the side windows vaguely reminiscent of a coupe.
Only some hesitation in commenting on the transition between the rear door and fender, where too much plate without this design element can break the set. The body as a whole it worked well, more streamlined and less developed in height than the Ypsilon II, with the rear design inspired by Ardea front and pointed.
The latter was modified during construction to facilitate integration design with Chrysler. The console and center stack denote an obvious stylistic kinship with the interior of the outgoing generation: change materials (satin instead of glossy) and the finish, but the design remains unchanged.
The effect is very nice impact, but the visibility is not always optimal because of the many reflections. The materials used to coat the bridge turn out to be good overall, especially in the central section where the plastics are soft and pleasant to the touch, harder and "crunchy" (but not unpleasant) in the top and bottom.
Comfortable seats, especially when lined in leather, while steering wheel and gearshift are of some concern: the first seems slightly offset to the left, the second has a knob and looked too awkward to hold. Some problems also used to calculate the dimensions when parking, especially 3 / 4 rear.
The roominess and trunk are good for four persons, while the fifth occupant (the approval is only an option for 5) is more "forced". All elements will help ensure a feeling of comfort and ease. The command of the clutch and gearbox are smooth and velvety, the brake pedal requires a minimum of effort and makes the steering even useless button City, while ensuring a decent feel to high speed.
This behavior is replicated dall'assetto that allows you to absorb bumps and road imperfections without severe repercussions in the cockpit. The back of the coin is rather obvious: the Ypsilon obvious phenomena of roll and understeer rather obvious, easy to manage by simply lifting your foot off the gas pedal.
During our test drive we drove 0.9 TwinAir motors (85 hp) and 1.3 Multijet (95 bhp). The first, frankly, is a rather enigmatic motor, with remarkable technical qualities but perhaps unsuited to running the city. Below 3,000 rpm is somewhat empty and forced to "play around" with the change, but once exceeded 3,000 rpm mark changes: the extensions are full-bodied and satisfying, the answer turns out to be excellent and the pedal does not return until the progression to 5,500 rpm.
This usage does not allow certain limit consumption, but at least gives a minimum of fun. The 1.3 Multijet is proving more square and regular, sins in lunge but obviously started to push from 2,000 rpm. Also different driving sensations, since the extra weight gives the front a more pronounced sense of steering precision.
The new Lancia Ypsilon is offered starting at € 12,400, with standard equipment: the equipment present in the first Start & Stop, six airbags and rear seats split 50/50, but not radio or validation for the fifth passenger. The sample is photographed in progress Platinum (€ 16 200, 0.9 engine with twin) and includes electric rear windows, alloy wheels, 15 inch, automatic climate control, fog lamps, the audio system and steering wheel and shift knob leather gear.
