Rumor Mazda would be planning a new sports car, heir to the innovative RX-8, powered by a hybrid scheme derived from that used by Toyota's Prius is coupled to an internal combustion engine Wankel rotary type, such as that already used in 2003 by that Japanese coupe. Under a deal signed in 2010, the House of Hiroshima could use Toyota's hybrid technology with a specific license that will enable Mazda to launch its first hybrid as early as 2013.
The car in question could therefore be just the heir of the family sports car RX if so you would expect to use the name RX-9. So if the rumors were confirmed, we could speak of the first true sports car with rear-wheel drive hybrid, mass-produced. It is worth mentioning that a hybrid scheme can compensate for the relatively low torque that plagues rotary motors and excessive consumption of fuel and oil on these engines is usually very high.
Aesthetically, the future "RX-9" should abandon the imaginative solution of the door against the wind, to embrace a more classic style scheme MX-5, which should also share the platform and basic architecture.
