New Audi E-gas technology

In addition to hybrid technology and pure electric e-tron, Audi reported the new technology and-gas, whereby gas can be obtained from renewable energy. After three years of investigations, said that in 2013 and will be ready the first Audi driven by e-gas. Paying attention to the name of the following technologies: e-gas.

What is real? Which manufacturer has patented? According to preliminary data announced by Audi, the e-gas is natural gas, but produced from renewable energy. It is also a synthesis gas of identical composition (methane), but that does not come from deposits. Its advantage is that the production is consumed atmospheric CO2.

Is performed by reaction with hydrogen, to be achieved by renewable electrolysis with electricity from wind farms or stations. Audi has announced the creation of e-gas to industrial scale in the North Sea with this scheme, while announcing the production of this gas-powered cars by 2013.

The plant will produce 1,000 tonnes per year of this e-gas and the process will consume 2,800 tons of atmospheric CO2. To realize the e-gas, which will be further developed and refined over the years, Audi has enjoyed the cooperation of several partners. Among the most prominent are the SolarFuel GmbH of Stuttgart, the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) in Stuttgart, the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems and Energy Technologies (IWES) in Kassel and the Center Energie AG SHEEP.

E-gas technology from Audi can be applied to electric cars that incorporate a hydrogen fuel cell and other vehicles can be driven by methane gas. The prototype e-tron A1 and A3 TCNG are two concepts that 'drink' of e-gas technology. The Audi A1 e-tron is a hundred percent electric vehicle that has a small rotary engine that can extend the autonomy, like the Chevrolet Volt and the Opel Ampera, the A1 and-tron could be kept within the range electric outstretched.

It's a front wheel drive with an electric motor with a continuous power output of 45 kW (about 61 hp) and maximum power of 75 kW (102 hp). Automatic transmission has a single speed. With lithium ion batteries charged in full, placed under the central tunnel and the rear bench, arranged in a T, with a capacity of 12 kWh announces autonomy in electric mode hundred percent of anything over 50 kilometers.

If you want to make longer journeys into operation a small rotary engine to an electric generator to recharge the car is still moving. In terms of performance, declaring an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.2 seconds with a top speed of 130 km / h. The Audi A3 is the prototype TCNG that marks the real beginning and practical e-gas technology.

To do this, we are working on a new generation of TFSI supercharged four-cylinder that can operate with e-gas (methane). The bulk density of e-gas is equal to that of natural gas from fossil fuels and, therefore, less than unleaded petrol. Like the natural gas-burning and gas also creates much less CO2 than unleaded petrol.

Thus, the emissions generated from this e-gas combustion are very low.
