Lotus will build their own engines

After abandoning the project for the new Elan, Lotus said that it will develop its own engines V6 and V8 will be the funds that were intended to finance the car, the new family of modular engines that the manufacturer has in the works. Among them, there would also be a new 4-cylinder. The work on the V8 started last year and the first prototype will be running in July.

Internal sources speak of an output of 550/570 hp V8 to fight up close to Maranello. From eight cylinders could also derive the new L4: if the project goes through, the British brand could leave the unit derived from Toyota. The decision to develop its new engine family was taken as a result of the desire of fans of the brand to leave the Toyota engines in favor of exclusive products.

Another question that fans will do for some time is whether the range of the manufacturer really needs a 4-door like Jehovah. Dany Bahar, CEO of Lotus, has specified about the model is merely a stretched version with two doors and more than the Elite and that development requires a minimum investment proportion.

The strength of the new range will be in modular construction: the new Lotus will be in fact based entirely on an aluminum platform is extremely light (around 150 kg). All models will have more than 50% of the components in common, and in the case of Elite and Eternal, even more than 75%.
