Google is not the only car that you drive alone, but also Italian robot car which was presented at the International Conference on Robotics in St. Petersburg in Russia. Just yesterday we talked about the Google car, a Toyota Prius which is distinguished by the fact that it can move by itself without a driver and laser equipment that mounts on the roof.
The Italian car was designed and built by Italian researchers at the University of Parma VisLab, whose director is the robotic Alberto Broggi. Google car as the car was tested for several thousands of kilometers through the streets of the United States, including the robot vehicle Vis Lab is managed at the end of summer 2010, to complete the crossing Asia from Parma in Shanghai.
The same technology is used by Google, which is based on cameras and lasers that show the path. In Russia the cars without drivers have given test their performance in a distance of 4 km around the area of the conference. The Google Car is basically a modified Prius, while VisLab has installed this technology on Piaggio Porter 4 that are able to see obstacles in your path, such as pedestrians, other vehicles and obstacles.
