Initially set aside, the idea of producing a Volkswagen Polo R would return highly topical today as reported by Autocar: the announcement of the German entry in the World Rally seems to have resulted in a "Repechage" that bodes well for the future of the more casual of the Polo. Concerns about the external Volkswagen economic feasibility of a super small (which will be very expensive) appear suddenly disappeared.
Ulrich Hackenberg, one of top VW managers, revealed that the English text entry into the WRC makes it "more likely" the arrival of a more stringent Polo GTI. With regard to the timing of presentation, Hackenberg said that any Polo R "will coincide with the launch of the WRC program, not before." "I do not know yet to provide precise dates, but more or less goes like this." For the record, Wolfsburg will be launched in the rally world championship since the 2013 season.
