Daihatsu left Europe in 2013

Daihatsu has decided to cease the sale of new models in Europe starting in late January 2013, however, continue to provide after sale services such as provision of spare parts for vehicles sold before that date. The decision was taken partly because of the unfavorable exchange rate of sterling against the euro and the yen: the Daihatsu, being imported from Japan, suffer from high rates as well as from customs duties.

Another reason is the increasingly heavy costs to be incurred to comply with European standards, especially in terms of CO2 emissions. Besides, European sales of Daihatsu declined significantly with only 19,300 units sold in ten countries of the European Union last year, a small number compared to the 58,600 sold in 2007.

Daihatsu has registered in Italy last year, 5,738 cars, 37% less than in 2009.
