F1 2011: team orders and "sporting rules"

Previously in this column I have deployed against the awkward and embarrassing way by which, in blatant violation of a provision of the Regulation of force in F1, Massa was told to let Alonso. The poor showing of the global Live Ferrari, in addition to fines imposed, however, has not allowed Alonso to take advantage of the five points of difference between the first and second place to win the World Drivers Championship Formula 1 2010.

I should also mention that Red Bull has won both world, pilots and brands, refusing obstinately, against the interests of his team to adopt a logic of convenience that would have allowed quietly to win big with three or four games to spare and placing its drivers in the first and second place.

The Red Bull has probably spent more and made more effort to put the cabbages with the two results, but in the film of 2010 F1 Chris Orner plays the role of "good" that proudly defends the freedom of its pilots to speak at their highest. I mean, if it is true that investment (high) of an F1 team will be adopting an approach based on maximizing the results, it is also true that this logic in one sport alone is not enough, because they act - fortunately for the fans - Other variables, such as the challenge, the motivation of pilots, unexpected accidents and indeed the policy errors.

The logic of the interests of the team has its validity and its sacrosanct grounds for return on investment, but in a "sport" has to live with all the variables that can not be managed only with a policy of convenience. For this reason it will not be missed by all those who now drink a toast to the "end of hypocrisy," the difficult balance that the cancellation of the ban on team orders to impose the final sentence of the innovation introduced in 2011, namely that however sanctioned "behavior that is not sports or who may carry the sport into disrepute." What do you mean? I imagine that the Fed intends that all the conduct prohibited in the race, because they are considered unsportsmanlike, you must meet.

So for example the two cars of a team can change places, for reasons of classification and scoring, but not intentionally damage your opponents, to prevent illegally overtaking. So as usual, from this point of view, except that the exchange of position between the two drivers of the same team can be placed in a transparent manner.

Much ado about nothing, I just hope that a F1 championship already accused of being too boring and fought, did not become still more. It 'a sport, remember, and the public has the right to watch a good race, fought, exciting. If not, maybe the team achieve its best, but more and more viewers switch channels, go to the racetrack to give up or move their focus and passion for motor sports with more competitive spirit, like the MotoGP and Superbike.
