How does the Start & Stop

There is hardly a model of new generation that does not have its standard equipment the Start & Stop system, a technology that you know the positive effect on fuel consumption and emissions produced in the city traffic, but which probably few know the real operation. Yet, being now a system destined to become standard, so that by some estimates as much as 50% of all new models sold in 2012 will be the standard, it is useful to understand at least the basic operation, also illustrated in a funny video made by Bosch.

The basic principle is simple but important: avoid an unnecessary consumption of fuel when the vehicle is stopped in traffic with the engine running, such as can occur before a traffic light. The system also limits the release of air emissions and contribute to increased maintenance costs of the vehicle, which is evident especially those who travel a lot in town and is frequently among the queues and traffic jams are typical of modern towns.

The Start & Stop system goes into action when you put the transmission in neutral (for those who drive model with manual transmission) and is released the clutch pedal, while the transmission is automatic, just press the brake pedal and insert the neutral position of change (denoted by the letter N).
