The new Fiat Freemont, born from the base of the Dodge Journey All-American, arrived in dealerships last weekend raising interest among the public especially good value for money. We road test the top version, the Urban with the 2-liter Multijet 170 bhp, which already includes a number of fully equipped according to the formula of "Fiat real price." The line of Freemont is distinguished by greater height of the body and we see that strength is the aspect that most distinguishes her.
The Fiat SUV is big house, with a length of about 5 meters, a width that exceeds the momentum of six feet and a height of 1.75 meters. Represents something new for those coming from the car of the Italian, so at first, gives a little 'awe. The front end has been revised to give a sort of Italian identity, but the U.S.
remains impressive, and they also characterize the sides and rear view with angular lines and massive. No concession to the lines are soft and original, the Freemont has a strict style, almost too balanced, but his body forward car safety and the bottom is the one who seeks a family to bring their children to school.
We tested the Urban version, the most equipped, with leather interior, an option that is offered for free at the launch. The impression of solidity remains outside, the plastic of the dashboard is convincing, or at least does not regret that of other competitors, the steering wheel in front of the instrumentation is simple and intuitive, while there are too many controls on the center console.
At this point the car are a multifunction screen is too small to be consulted easily, where they crowd the entries for the radio controls, climate and other devices. Better to rely on the conventional buttons to adjust the temperature in a more intuitive. The dark hue of the interior is broken by silver inserts and chrome shift lever that give give a hint of color to a cabin rather serious.
The interior is spacious and allows a large family to accommodate two children in third-row seats, but as long as you give up much of the trunk. The Fremont offers a view different from that of other Fiat models, overlooking the road from the top and has a constant feeling of security. The steering has a setting for tourism, but does not have a chronic delay in replying, and maybe this is helped by the 19-inch alloy wheels (standard are 17-inch) engine drives well, is ready and well connected with the change .
Despite the size of the car, the 2-liter Multijet 170 bhp figure and its door for a walk in the Freemont fluency. Of course, acceleration felt his voice, but performs well and does not cause those annoying gaps in provision of some diesel engines. Everything good from the point of view of stability, the SUV made in Fiat has a good support and does not call into difficulties in everyday driving, if anything, is the change to create some confusion and not for its functionality, which is honest, although it tends to stop dead in fast gear changes.
In fact, its position forces the rider, in some moments, to make of forced displacement in the long run could be tiring. The arrival of the automatic would be a blessing in this sense.
