After having spied during testing in Europe and America, we can finally see a large photo gallery, all the beauty of the new Mercedes AMG Roadster SLS, last masterpiece of Mercedes-AMG sports division, SLS AMG convertible fascinating evolution "gullwing "and spiritual heir of the legendary Mercedes 300SL Roadster, 1957.
Compared with the coupe from which it derives, the latest creation from the atelier of Affalterbach loses the doors to "gull-wing", but gains a classic, but technological fabric roof with three layers, with an opening system built using electro- components in steel, aluminum and magnesium.
The hood can be operated via a switch located in the center console that allows you to "discover" the SLS roadster in just 11 seconds, up to a maximum speed of 50 km / h. It is also equipped with a modern glass rear window that can minimize external noise and have a device that eliminates the stagnation of rain water.
In both open and closed position, the rear trunk of the roadster is unaffected by load capacity: this is 173 liters in both configurations. Aesthetically, the new SLS Roadster inherits the perfect proportions of the coupe from which declination: the long bonnet that contrasts with the short tail and muscular features retractable dall'alettone coming out to 120 km / h and the dual exhaust from a square shape.
The sides give the view a sense of power thanks to the generous wheel arches that house the enormous size 265/35 ZR 19 tires for the front and 295/30 ZR 20 for the rear. In addition, the clean and modern design is combined with the many references back as the big front grille, which incorporates the three-pointed star, or the two ribs on the hood, or the generous air intakes on the sides.
In contrast, the interiors are modeled faithfully in the modern aviation-inspired cockpit that we could see on closed version of the SLS, which is characterized by the elegance and sporty lines and noble materials such as leather upholstery and the massive use of carbon fiber on the center console and door trim.
Usually when you make a version discovery made on the basis of a coupe, the fast acceleration and dynamic abilities are penalized by the stringency of weight due to structural changes in order to obtain greater torsional rigidity. Even the combined fuel consumption remain unchanged from the value of 13.2 liters per 100 kilometers, while CO2 emissions drop from 314 g / km to 308 g / km of CO2 emitted into the air. Sporty driving viebne further enhanced by the dual-clutch gearbox with 7-speed DCT denouncing times changed very fast in the order of 100 milliseconds, plus have 4 different settings: "C", "S", "S +" and "M "to which you add the function RACE START, dedicated to the swift departure.
