Mercedes has confirmed the commercial launch of SLS AMG Roadster next autumn, will cost an estimated production of 195,160 Euro in Europe, including taxes. The spider will be ordered as early as June 1st, to allow customers to personalize their own copy. The cars will be assembled in Sindelfingen, while the AMG 6.3-liter V8 engines come from the establishment of specialized AMG Affalterbach.
Among the special features of the SLS than the AMG Roadster Coupe stands out as an unpublished technical: The spider brings it to debut AMG Ride Control, an electronically controlled suspension system offered as an option. You can choose between modes Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus, designed to use the car 360 degrees, from the most distressed city streets to the curb of a circuit.
The system, which we had noticed the lack during our test drive of the coupe, will in future be available on the SLS AMG with gull-wing doors. The SLS AMG Roadster has had the benefit of a project conducted in parallel with the coupe, which has now allowed us to optimize the structural rigidity of the space frame in anticipation of the elimination of the roof, with a total weight gain of only 40 kg, of which only 2 kg on the frame.
To maintain the torsional stiffness necessary to guarantee the driving pleasure of the SLS, the skirts were revised, the supports of the bridge and the frame of the windscreen, while a strut bar installed between the tank roof and stiffens the rear.
