Porsche 911: The new series will mount the Kers

And now, via free Kers. The device made popular in recent years as one of F1's new special, according to the engineers in Zuffenhausen, next will be one of "devilish" waiting to board the next generation Porsche 911. The new GT series - the brand's emblem, which bears the symbol 911 to 991, it will be equipped with the Kinetic Energy Recovery System, the device uses the stored energy during braking to provide a temporary injection of additional cavalry the powerplant.

The only difference compared to the F1 KERS universally known (and which stores energy in a system of additional batteries) is that the Kers expected on the next Porsche 911 to 991 will be accompanied by an electro - mechanical flywheel installed ad hoc means a device that, at first glance, it seems like the Flywheel Capacitor built in 2009 by Magneti Marelli (and we showed two years ago), which consists of a flywheel made of carbon fiber in turn connected to an electric motor that gives disk speeds of over 60 000 rpm.

In essence, it will be a hybrid between the Kers completely electric and a mechanical system to 100%. In this way, you can already assume an increase in performance of the future 911. The 3.4-liter horizontally opposed 6, for which we expect an output of 350 hp, with the use of KERS, according to the technical Porsche should provide even greater acceleration than the current 4.1 seconds required for 997 GT3 for the transition from 0 to 100 km / h.

We expect a smaller dispersion of CO2, more speed, fuel consumption and lower overall weight of the car (thanks to greater use of lightweight materials for the construction of the body), even in the presence of a vehicle body slightly increased . To use the KERS flywheel between the engine and, in fact, the pace should increase by about 6 to 7 cm.

This system, still in a phase of study, will be announced to preview the weekend of June 26, at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring Nordschleife of the marathon (usual hunting ground for the houses in search of innovative technical solutions), where will make its debut in the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid Version 2.0 - Version of gasoline and electricity, announced in December 2009 and shown at the Geneva Motor Show 2010 - and for the supply of two electric motors (one for each of the front wheels) will be powered by a flywheel system placed in the cockpit.
