Rain of awards for Automotive Lighting, a branch of Magneti Marelli technology specialist lighting for cars. After the "Special Innovation Award" issued by Daimler, the Italian company won the most coveted international award: the "Red Dot Award Product Design 2011". The product that has made such a stir is the optical group that led entirely made its debut in production a few months ago on the Mercedes-Benz CLS.
This is an important innovation, because for the first time (the competition from Audi was not made to wait, but the manufacturer is the same) all projector functions are realized with LEDs: low beam, high beam, turn signals, lights position and daytime running lights. The advantages are a light natural color, visibility improved dramatically, with an extremely low power consumption (about 14 W instead of 300W) and an even greater duration of the life cycle of the car itself.
And then there's the aesthetic impact of the various diodes forming the light beam should be close, but can be arranged with the most diverse forms, giving the designer a free hand until recently unknown. Since the debut of the CLS, a car design from the very sought after, the full LED headlamp has been touted as one of his trump most environmental impact.
But the system used by the sedan-coupe Stuttgart has another advantage: a special unit analyzes data from sensors on board to define conditions of the road, outdoor lighting and driving style. And automatically adjusting the depth, strength and orientation of the beam, they can choose from seven different configurations.
