The Saab 9-3 convertible is 25 years

This year marks the 25 anniversary of the arrival in the market of the first Saab 9-3 Convertible, a model that today remains in full force. It is a good time to review the history of a model as emblematic. The history of the Saab 9-3 convertible actually begins in 1983 when the Swedish company unveiled in the Frankfurt model concept.

However, it was not until 1986 when the first 400 units of the Saab 900 Convertible, the first name of the model, reaching the American market. This first version had a 2-liter turbo engine and 175 hp. In 1993, General Motors already involved, we present the new generation Saab 900, which he shared a platform with the Opel Vectra at the time.

This new generation improved in all the above aspects, both in the aesthetic as the mechanic. Five years later, in 1998, Saab decided to rename the current car, running to call Saab 9-3 Convertible and pass receiving a facelift to update its image. For the next chapter in the history of this car and you have to go twenty-first century, specifically to 2003.

It then filed a new sedan based on GM's Epsilon platform. This was the birth of the third generation of Saab 9-3 Convertible, still existing today. This car was the first with a canvas roof to achieve the five star EuroNCAP, besides being an important step forward from the previous model.

Elements such as a roof capable of being deployed in record time or a seat whose upholstery is able to repel water will still remain as one of the most popular convertible in the segment. However, if all goes as planned, by 2012 are expected as the new Saab 9-3 convertible is concerned.

We will be watching.
