Toyota most popular brand for hybrid and electric cars in Europe

Toyota is by European consumers as the brand with the highest competence and the highest level of awareness regarding perceived hybrid and electric vehicles. This is the result of a study that was carried out in cooperation of Glass and the English marketing and research company Harris Interactive among 5,000 people in France, Germany, Spain, Italy and England.

It showed 30 percent of respondents are interested in electric or hybrid vehicles. Thus, the potential of environmentally friendly engines is significantly higher than what has actually been realized in the market sales. The result confirms the view of Toyota, the hybrid system that is a key technology for future mobility.

When Toyota introduced the respondents takes the top position among the hybrid and electric vehicle brands. 15 percent of study participants cited the company and 16 percent of Toyota's flagship hybrid Prius. With six percent comes the next hybrid provider and its hybrid model in the popularity scale.

So far, Toyota has sold more than three million hybrid vehicles. After the introduction of the Auris HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive) last year in the compact class, the Yaris the hybrid drive in the coming year also brings in the subcompact segment. Also in 2012 comes the Prius + on the market, the first hybrid 7-seater.

From 2012 is also the Prius plug-in hybrid (PHV) with higher electric range for sale. So far, the vehicle will be leased only to selected groups of customers as part of test programs. (Ampnet / jri)
