Volkswagen Polo from 2013 in the World Rally Championship

Environment was rumored for some time but now it's official: Volkswagen will debut in the World Rally Championship with its own team in 2013 using the Polo WRC will begin testing later this year. Kris Nissen, Volkswagen Motorsport team boss, confirmed in a press conference in Sardinia, the German company's commitment to give away the project later this year, stating that the commitment has been agreed with the team for at least the next 5 years.

Aesthetically, the Volkswagen Polo WRC is immediately recognizable by its two-tone blue and white livery that highlights the muscular forms of the car. The design of reassuring Polo has become more aggressive with a myriad of changes that enhance the sportiness of the car: the engine hood has numerous air vents, designed to cool the supercharged engine, the roof is checked an additional air intake, while the wheel arches have been widened to accommodate the huge alloy wheels with white spokes.

In the back is a huge blunt aerodynamic wing adjustable to the needs of the runway. The heart used to this new racing car is a supercharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with variable turbine geometry and equipped with direct fuel injection, capable of developing some 300 hp. Volkswagen racing effort will be focused exclusively from 2013 WRC rally in the competition, where competition has recently added two new formidable opponents: the Mini Countryman and the WRC Citroen WRC DS3.

Now the challenge for the world can be considered open.
