Bmw: the secrets of the development tests

BMW has released two interesting video where they revealed some "mysteries" surrounding the debut of their first models on the market. The first shows some of the research centers around the world where you realize the prototypes of the House of Monaco, while the second shows a tough test performed by some forklifts in inhospitable Death Valley, California.

First graduation 5.15 minutes long movie opens with some images showing the assembly of a model of the German manufacturer, after which follow one another quickly the frames that show the number of research centers and development of the BMW Group, including Leipzig, Steyr, South Carolina and Monaco of Bavaria.

The video continues with the interview with Manfred Steibauer, assigned to the experimental vehicles that explains the delicate and important work of the research used to work in a meticulous and time constraints. In the second part of the video shows you how to defend the confidentiality of the projects, because there may be possibilities of industrial espionage still there: a skilled worker shows how to apply the special camuffatture the prototypes, so as to conceal as much as possible the final form will feature new models.

The second video, along about half of the first, shows instead a grueling endurance test performed by some prototypes of the House of the helix (disguised of course) in one of the world's most inhospitable location: Death Valley (Death Valley). Located in the U.S. state of California on the border with Nevada, Death Valley is a desert of about 13,518 km2, 150 km long, where they are touched by day points of 50 °, while the night temperature drops to -35 ° altitude, without Moreover, in all the rain throughout the year from 3 to 6 cm of water.

In these extreme conditions are scrambled and brought the cars to the limit in order to test the reliability of each component of the car in any situation. Excessive heat is key to test the reliability of mechanical parts like the engine, but also accessories for comfort such as air-conditioning system, not to mention the stress endured by the wheels and suspensions involved in unlikely off-piste on excavated soil and rock solid, holes and so on.
