In 2050l'aria cities of the European Union could be as clean as that of the country. If this were to get through the project announced by the Brussels Commission, which wants to circulate that year only and not those green car powered by conventional fuels. The measure, if it were to move forward, would also have the dual purpose of making the continent less dependent on oil.
The project is ambitious and will be implemented in stages, with an important milestone in 2030, when it halved the use of petrol and diesel vehicles in urban areas and there will be a progressive increase in electric vehicles, especially in freight transport in order to reduce by at least 80% of greenhouse gas emissions within 40 years starting from the abandonment of its oil from vehicles, which now accounts for 96% of the total supply chain.
But how can you achieve this? The first proposal is to grant financial assistance to cities that make mobility plans to do so. Then there are those who believe that we should establish a system of tolls to enter the city and closures of urban centers which is the same across the continent in order to also reduce the traffic congestion which is estimated to lead to a lowering of '1% of European GDP.
In order to reduce cars on the road, of course, the EU is also focusing on the development of high-speed rail network and the use of environmentally friendly fuels in aircraft.
